Let’s Design Our Students!
“Teachers are designers…..” (Wiggins & Mc Tighe, 2005, p. 13)
  Perhaps it will be a ‘dangerous’ thing if we read and make a conclusion the quotation literally. It is just a metaphor of a teacher. Is it mean that the teachers must shape their students become anything based on the teachers’ intention? Will the students’ future be killed by their teachers? Absolutely the answers are NO. So that, what is the purpose of comparing teachers and designers?
As we know we are going to do some preparations before we do our jobs. We do that because we hope we will get the best result after we strive to do the best that we can. Teaching is like that as well. Teachers should make some plan before they teach their students in classroom. We usually call it as a lesson plan. The elements that should exist inside the lesson plan are the objective learning, duration of teaching, activities, and other things that teachers think those are necessary. 
I will not explain more about lesson plan here. Now, I just want to tell the real facts that we usually see in education world of our beloved country. Based on my experiences and my friends as well, there are many teachers who taught in the classroom without any lesson plans. Perhaps they thought that teaching is a skill that they have already mastered in. I think it is not fully right. Yes, we maybe agree that teaching is a skill that we can learn. The more often we teach the more chance we can teach better. However, teaching is one of the ways we do to change our students become better. Of course it is better if we plan what we will do before we teach in front of class. I think everyone agree that something with good preparation will achieve better result than something that we do without any preparations. Hence, let’s prepare ourselves to become the next generation of “designers”!  ^_^

Tolerant People

Humanistic Study & Tolerance
Attending first session in Humanistic Study (HS) course has given a mosaic consists of some points about what I will learn in this subject. I think those points are my expectation toward learning HS. First, I can be more motivated to see something critically. So far perhaps I often see something based on my assumptions. I rarely dig up what it is actually, how come something can happened, etc. Furthermore, I usually tend to tell me argumentation in “behind of scene”. I still afraid to explain what I believe in front of people directly. After Mr. Hatim told us that we have to be active while studying HS in class, I promise to minimize my anxiety in talking my argument in front of my friends. Wish I can do it. ^_^
Anyway, I will answer, “Just be a tolerant people!” if I am asked by someone about what my attitude toward the other people that have different pont of view with me. What is “tolerant people” actually? Based on Cambridge Dictionary, tolerant (adj) means allowing people to do what they want especially when you do not agree with it. Hence, it is so clear that we can called as tolerant people if we allow other people do what they believe in although we absolutely don’t agree with something that they work & belief.
Then, what are the characteristics of tolerant people? Is it mean that we have to join what other people do even we actually disagree with them? I think those questions will become several things that we can not answer easily. We have to consider many things objectively. However, my opinion now is I think we do tolerance if we only allow someone do what his/ her belief without we join in. Why? Of course it is because we have our own belief, don’t we? My religion (based on my understanding) prohibited me to do activities that become other religions’ worship. In conclusion, I tend to agree that we can called as tolerant people if we have allowed other people believe and do what they believe without we join their worship activities. 
Hopefully, I will get more new things in this course. I think the most important thing is we can not always think about ‘why’ with our religion because our mind capacity is limited. There are several things inside the right religion in God’s sight. That’s all my opinion so far. ^_^

E-Reflection of PETA (#1)



Are You an Effective Teacher?
“.........One of the most difficult tasks in education today is defining an effective teacher.” (Borich, 2004).

            Well, it is not easy to define what an effective teacher is. Even though, let’s try to identify at least the characteristic(s) that perhaps belong to an effective teacher. By doing that, hopefully we will always try to become an effective teacher. 
            The word effective itself actually means achieving result that you want (Cambridge Dictionary). So then, what result that a teacher should expect actually? If we are here talking about Indonesian context, I think better we refer to UU No. 20 Th. 2003 about National Education System (Indonesian: Sistem Pendidikan Nasional). We will conclude the purposes of national education. The purpose here means what result we want to achieve through education. There are three main fields: cognitive, affective and psychomotoric.
            A cognitive skill usually related with how students think, understand and learn (Cambridge Dictionary).  It means that the teacher needs to be able to share the knowledge about subject materials that student learn. By achieving the cognitive skills it means students have met the qualifications that will be useful for them.
            An affective skill refers to how students show their daily attitude or behavior to people around them. It usually related with good or bad characteristics of someone, such as diligent, discipline, honesty, care with everyone and so on.
            The third skill is psychomotoric. It usually related with applying or using our knowledge to solve the real case or problem in our daily live. It also refers to how the students do something based on their knowledge. In school context, this skill commonly find in some subject, such as Pendidikan Jasmani dan Olahraga, Electricity, Bahasa Indonesia, etc.
            In conclusion, I think an effective teacher is a teacher that always strives to teach the students in order to attain those three skills. It is like what many academicians said that teachers not only deal with teaching students, but also deal with understanding students’ characteristics. Wish I will get more manners how to become a truly effective teacher through learning Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment (PETA). I think it is possible to get basic knowledge about what an effective teacher is and how to attain that “prestigious title” in this PETA class. Let’s strive to become the new generation of effective teachers…! ^_^

Write, Write, Write...!

Many theories about how to write something well.
Many writers and academicians talk how to make a good writing.



However, don't you know these:

Writing is skill not theory?
We can't explain clearly how come a writer can create an amazing writing?
Writing is similar with swimming or riding a vehicle?

In conclusion:
Just write, write and write* if you want to become an excellent writer...!!!

*It is not easy to do that, but it doesn't mean we can't do it. KEEP SPIRIT,  :-)
